Eric Bailly has his ‘sights set elsewhere’, Man United in active discussions over exit: report

Eric Bailly is apparently in talks about leaving Man United…

Defensively, Manchester United have had real troubles this season. Raphael Varane has constantly nursed injuries while neither Victor Lindelof nor Harry Maguire have set the world alight.

Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have been waiting in the wings, though they’ve not really been given an opportunity to play consistently. Hence why the former is seemingly looking to move on.

The claim comes from Foot Mercato, with the translation coming via Sport Witness. Apparently, AC Milan have made signing Bailly a ‘priority’ for this window, as they look to replace Simon Kjaer.

On top of that, there are active discussions already taking place between the two parties, over a loan deal that would last until the end of the campaign.

It’s written that Milan would pay Bailly’s ‘huge salary’ in full, while the player has his ‘sights set elsewhere’ – presumably due to a lack of playing time.

I will stress that things are ‘currently stalling’ as the parties look to work out a deal. I’d imagine that United are trying to get maximum value for Bailly, who is obviously immensely talented but hasn’t really shown any consistency.

Should Bailly stay or go?

At this point, it feels like letting Bailly leave would undoubtedly be the smart decision. The Ivorian hasn’t been given a real run in the side and that won’t happen any time soon given the players who are ahead of him in the pecking order.

A fresh start feels like the best scenario for all involved at this juncture, with Bailly needing to play games with regularity in order to fully put those injury woes behind him.
