Eric Bailly dropped a performance to remember vs Wolves. As you’d imagine, the Manchester United fans would take to Twitter to praise him in their droves.
Well, Manchester United definitely left it later than we’d all have liked, but three points is three points. Today, we’re waking up sitting second in the Premier League table. Whichever way you dress it up, that’s an improvement.
They say defence wins Championships. United’s has been anything-but watertight in 2020/21 so far. Last night, things were different. The team defended as a unit, with Harry Maguire setting the captain’s example.
The one key difference was Eric Bailly, who brings something to the table that none of the other defender’s has; pace. Speed remains undefeated. It enabled him to cover ground quickly to stop danger that was brewing. Last night, it was needed on more than one occasion and Bailly was a huge reason as to why our clean sheet was preserved.
He was brilliant in the air, made some important interceptions and was also a tackling machine throughout. I’ve remained firm in the belief that a fully fit Bailly is easily the best defender at the club. However, the large elephant in the room still remains – his jagged injury record.
I guess the only concern is that Bailly has now played three games in six days since returning from injury. Hopefully, he’s feeling good and ready to go again on New Years Day, but perhaps it’s time to sit him out for a game in order to not rush him back too quickly.
Anyway, the United fans would rush to Twitter to rave about the 26-year-old’s top display vs Wolves. Rightly so too, he was sensational!
