Eric Bailly’s days at Manchester United may well be numbered.
Manchester United have had their defensive issues in more ways than one over the last few years. Inconsistencies in play, constant changing of the back line and injuries.
Ironically, Eric Bailly fits into all three categories above. When fit, the Ivorian has often shown glimpses of his immense talents. Sure, his ability cannot be denied. His availability, however, leaves plenty to be desired.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has never been able to rely upon the now 27-year-old, who could be about to leave Old Trafford this summer.
According to ESPN, the United star is ‘ready’ to reject a new contract and seek a transfer away from the club this summer. That’s due to a lack of first-team chances.
Apparently, their sources claim Bailly is ‘becoming increasingly frustrated’ by being overlooked by Solskjaer, with the lack of chances now a major issue for the former Villareal man.
Having featured in just fifteen games this term, Bailly does have a point, but he hasn’t shown anywhere near enough for United to bend over backwards to keep him around.
That said, there’s every chance Bailly could play some part in United’s Europa League second leg against Granda this coming Thursday. That’s due to Harry Maguire being suspended, though Bailly has only just returned to Manchester after suffering from COVID-19, so I’m not holding my breath in regards to him starting.
At this stage, United’s decision has to be made this summer. Sell him now, or risk losing him for nothing in 2022. Personally, I’d get whatever transfer fee we can for him and look to add a top-quality centre-half to the squad during the upcoming transfer window.
