Eric Bailly ‘resigned’ to a move away from Man United this summer

Man United defender Eric Bailly believes he’ll have to leave the club to play first-team football.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United squad is slowly starting to take shape, though the dressing room does feel somewhat light in key areas of the pitch.

One area the club is suddenly well-stocked is at centre-back. The arrival of Lisandro Martinez leaves the Red Devils with five or six genuinely quality footballers to choose from.

Sadly, there’s not enough minutes to go around. Hence, at least one of these players will have to be moved on. Eric Bailly absolutely fits into that category. Nobody can deny his ability and skill. Heck, he’s shown his capabilities on pre-season. The problem is, he’s just not going to play.

Now, ESPN’s sources have an update on Bailly’s future. According to their contacts, the £80k-a-week (Spotrac) United star is now ‘resigned’ to leaving the club if he wants to play regularly.

At the start of pre-season, Bailly was hopeful that he could impress Ten Hag this summer and force his way into the starting line-up. However, that dream has been ended pretty swiftly.

Bailly has the talent to find a new home quickly. He’ll absolutely be given the opportunity by some club somewhere to play in the top division. Be it here in England, Spain, Italy or anywhere else.

The issue with the Ivory Coast international is that he’s consistently been dealing with small injury issues that have kept him sidelined for far too long. He hasn’t been able to start week-in-week-out and that has now taken a toll on his body.

At this stage, a permanent move away from the Theatre of Dreams feels like the best situation for all involved. It’d also generate some extra funds for the Old Trafford club to invest into other areas of the squad.
