Eric Bailly has told us Man United fans that he feels fine after coming off against Burnley with an injury.
Manchester United looked much-improved against Burnley last time out, particularly in that first 45 minutes. Ralf Rangnick is big on controlling the game and it’s fair to say our Red Devils did exactly that.
Learning and adapting to a new system takes time. There was always going to be bumps in the road and I don’t doubt they’ll be more games where we look extraordinarily average in future. However, the signs of what Rangnick is trying to achieve were there for us to see a couple of days ago.
That game wasn’t without its own issues, though. Eric Bailly was sadly forced off with an apparent injury in the second 45 minutes. That leaves United particularly light in central defence.
Well, United have been boosted, with the United star Bailly sending a positive injury update after the game. The Ivorian has admitted that he is ‘good’, just tired – presumably after travelling back to Manchester from the Ivory Coast.
“Thank you to all of the fans for the support tonight,” Bailly told club media. “It was a good victory. I am good, I am good, just tired. A good win to finish the year.”
Bailly was actually given permission to leave United and head away for international duty early ahead of AFCON 2022. However, the club had no choice but to call him back following Victor Lindelof contracting Covid-19.
For what it’s worth, the ex-Villareal man actually looked pretty good against Burnley. He was aggressive in defending, willing to try and play the ball out from the back and great in the air.
I still think that if Bailly can stay fit and get a prolonged run in the side, we could see something close to that scintillating form he displayed during his debut campaign.
Now, we’ll be without him for the next month as he heads off for the AFCON, during which I hope he can start games regularly and begin to build up that confidence again.
Good luck, Eric!
