Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy when being benched, Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

It has been blatantly obvious for anyone watching. Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t particularly flavour of the month for Erik ten Hag. As sad as it sounds, United look like a worse team with Ronnie in it…

His lack of movement, unwillingness to press and that slow speed is costing United. The GOAT is yet to score from open play this season, the performances have been pretty disappointing.

Word on the street has suggested that Ronaldo is still looking to leave when January rolls around – though no doubt the striker is still hoping to get some minutes under the belt before a potential exit in a few months’ time.

Ahead of that possible departure, Ten Hag has told the media that the United star is ‘not happy’ when not playing. He even used an expletive to make it clear to everyone that CR7 just doesn’t like sitting on the substitute’s bench.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“He’s not happy that he wasn’t playing Sunday, don’t get me wrong,” he said, per the Manchester Evening News.

“The question was about his mood on the training pitch and when he’s around and he’s happy. Of course, he wants to play and he’s p***ed off when he’s not playing. Clear.”

At the end of the day, no professional worth their salt doesn’t like being out of favour. It’s an ego thing. Ronaldo has a bigger one of those than most. He will absolutely hate not being the first name on the team sheet. That’s why he’ll go down as the best to ever do it.

One thing I will say is that, if Ronaldo was never going to feature firmly in the manager’s plans, surely it made sense just to let him go over the summer? Whatever transfer fee was being offered, it doesn’t matter, just to get an unhappy player off the books. He’s on massive wages, too…

The longer this drags on, the messier it will become. I do have my doubts about just how much interest they’ll be in Ronaldo during the mid-season window – particularly as he’s barely played so far.

Let’s hope Ronnie can russle up some keenness on signing him when he no doubt has a brilliant World Cup.
