Man United are all set to confirm Erik ten Hag as their new manager next week.
For months now, us Manchester United fans have been pondering who’d be called upon for the permanent job at Old Trafford.
Several names were linked, with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and even Ralf Rangnick in contention. Well, the Red Devils are rapidly closing in on their man; Erik ten Hag.
Last night, several reputable sources all released some major news on Ten Hag at a similar time. The deal is almost done, with the Dutchman a dead-cert to be named boss in the not too distant future.
We’ve gone with the Telegraph‘s story, who states that an announcement is expected next week, with an agreement with Ten Hag now 99% complete. The current Ajax boss will sign a three-year deal, with United set to appoint him as their new manager.
Sources close to the negotiations state that the paperwork to complete Ten Hag’s move to United is ‘going through’ and that ‘everything is now agreed’.
No doubt Ten Hag and United would have preferred to keep this information under wraps for a little while longer yet, particularly as Ten Hag is still in the middle of a title fight over at Ajax.
However, for us Reds supporters, this is great news. United have identified their main man nice and quickly, meaning Ten Hag will have the full summer to plan and shape exactly how he wants his first season to turn out.
There’s no doubt that this is a risky move, with Ten Hag having no major league experience. It’s a risk United had to take, though. This club has to get back on a level playing field with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. Ten Hag undoubtedly has the potential to go toe-to-toe with both Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp – if given the adequate time to build this squad into one that fits his image.
