Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford have fallen out and are hardly talking after a recent incident.
Manchester United Football Club is an organisation undergoing major change. INEOS are now in control of footballing operations, so you’d like to think that the positive energy will return in the not too distant future.
However, after a recent loss to Fulham, the current gaffer, Erik ten Hag, is feeling the heat. It feels a little harsh that the crows are starting to circle after the club’s first loss in 2024, though I guess that’s just the nature of the business at the highest level.
Once again, the injuries are mounting up which isn’t helping the situation. Now, there’s talk of a pretty major fallout between player and manager.
It comes from The Sun, with Neil Custis writing that Ten Hag is ‘barely on speaking terms’ with key United player, Marcus Rashford. They also add that the pressure ‘mounts’ on the Reds boss.
Ten Hag was not best-pleased when Rashford went out partying in Belfast, just hours before he was due in for training. The gaffer also felt deceived by the player, with Rashford claiming the incident happened 24 hours than it did.
The United gaffer was (rightly) ‘furious’ with his star attacker and hauled him into his office for an explanation. However, the relationship has not been repaired since, despite Ten Hag publicly stating that the situation had been put to bed.
This isn’t the first time that Rashford has been disciplined by Ten Hag, with the manager keen on keeping his players in line. When it happens multiple times, it becomes a real issue for the manager.
Rashford is seemingly willing to test the patience of the United boss and as we’ve witnessed with Jadon Sancho, that will not end well for the winger.
Whether we like his tactics, ideas and results or not, we should always back the manager over any player as respect is an integral part of any dressing room.
If the pair have had a serious fall out, then it does feel like it’s down to Rashford’s petulance. It doesn’t tension when the England international is putting in some pretty mediocre performances on the pitch, too. Let’s hope he bucks his ideas up soon.
