Erik ten Hag has provided a positive injury update ahead of the New Year, claiming five players will return next month.
As any Manchester United fan will know, the first half of this season has been pretty torrid on the injury front.
The Red Devils have been coping without major players for large portions of the season, making Erik ten Hag’s job even harder than normal.
The gaffer hasn’t been one to moan or cry about what’s happening on that front, instead, carrying on and doing as good-a-job as possible with the tools he has.
Although the squad for this weekend’s Nottingham Forest game will be very similar to that of the Aston Villa match, the gaffer did confirm that United will be given five injury boosts next month, with the Dutchman expecting a handful of key faces to return from the treatment table in mid-January.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“I think in mid-January, we expect many players back,” Ten Hag stated per ManUtd.com.
“Mason, Casemiro, Martinez, [Tyrell] Malacia [and] we expect Harry Maguire [back] of course. We expect many players to return in January.”
Casemiro and Licha Martinez are the important players. These guys were our two top performers last term and to have them back at their best would obviously be massive.
Mason Mount intrigues me. I actually believe he’s good enough to play a genuine part for this United side, though we haven’t seen it so far.
Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire will likely be rotational options, though to his credit, the centre-back has been absolutely sublime when called upon this season. Seriously fair play to him for turning it around.
Having these guys back not only makes our line-up infinitely stronger, but also the squad on the whole. Hopefully, they can all come back soon and begin to start making a genuinely positive impression in the not too distant future.
