Erik ten Hag has delivered some mixed injury news, ahead of a huge Premier League game against Liverpool…
Manchester United vs Liverpool. The rivalry that always springs to my mind first when the fixtures are released. Historical. Local. Competitive. This one ticks all the boxes. I absolutely hate them lot. They absolutely hate us too. That’s okay. It’s football.
Sadly, they’ve had the upper hand in this battle for a few years now. We haven’t scored on their ground in five years, the latest coming via Jesse Lingard back in 2018… The good news? There’s always a chance to put that right.
Ahead of the game, Erik ten Hag met the media during his usual pre-match press conference, delivering mixed injury news ahead of this huge Premier League game…
Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford will be available for selection. However, Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial are both sidelined.
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
”Harry [Maguire], he will not be available for the coming games,” Ten Hag told club media. “But we don’t think it is for the long term. Luke Shaw, he trained this morning. So we think he is available for Sunday.”
“Marcus Rashford. He will [be back, but] Martial not.”
The good news? Maguire’s injury is not long-term. When he came off in midweek, it looked fairly serious. It was always going to be a challenge for him to get fit in time for this one, which does leave us light at the heart of defence. Martial’s is likely just illness, so he shouldn’t be missing for too long.
To have Shaw back is crucial. Whether it means he plays at centre-half or left-back is another matter. The Englishman is undoubtedly our most senior figure back there and with Bruno absent, I would not be surprised if he’s given the armband here.
As for Rashy, we need a big game. I’m not sure he’ll start due to his form going into this one, but a winning goal off the bench would be the stuff of dreams for the young Mancunian. It’d also be a massive confidence booster for him over the hectic winter period.
