Erik ten Hag delivers positive injury update on Casemiro ahead of Nottingham Forest game

Erik ten Hag has given us some positive news on Casemiro, ahead of a huge FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United’s season has not been helped by injuries that have decimated the squad. It feels like Erik ten Hag has only been able to select his best team for about three games this season. Obviously, things will be tougher when the situation plays out like that.

The gaffer has not wanted to use that as an excuse. Rather, Ten Hag is looking to see it as a positive, giving other players opportunities. After the recent injury blows of Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund over the last week or so, the last thing the Reds needed was to lose another key member of their squad.

When Casemiro had to be substituted off with a head injury against Fulham, the fears and concerns were real. United, and their fans, were sweating on the availability of the important Brazilian.

However, United have received some positive news in that regard, ahead of a vital FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest tomorrow. The United boss has confirmed that Casemiro is available for tomorrow, meaning there is no concussion and he’s good to go.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“So it was bleeding, so he had to come off,” explained Ten Hag to the media, including ManUtd.com. “It was not to our advantage that he couldn’t continue the game. But he’s available for tomorrow.”

My initial reaction was that Case would likely miss this game, with Ten Hag and United not wanting to take any further risks. However, the ex-Real Madrid man has seemingly passed all the tests and is as close to 100% as possible.

It’s honestly massive news as without him, United have precisely zero defensive-minded midfielders that are fit and available. It would have likely meant either Christian Eriksen or Scott McTominay doing that role. Both players are infinitely better further up the field.

The FA Cup is our last shot at silverware so I fully expect the boss to go as strong as possible here in terms of team selection. Despite the fact he hasn’t been at his best since returning from injury, Casemiro is still one of the first names on the team sheet as things stand.
