Marcus Rashford is looking set to be available to take on Newcastle United this weekend.
Manchester United return this weekend, after a fortnight off due to international football. Thankfully, this was the last break before the end of the 2022/23 season, so we have plenty of domestic football to come over the next couple of months.
Erik ten Hag’s side added the Carabao Cup to the trophy cabinet recently, while it’s now about finishing the season strong and finishing inside the top four. Obviously, another piece of silverware or two would also be lovely.
Perhaps the key player in this system is Marcus Rashford. The Englishman has turned into the player we all knew he could be – scoring goals, adding assists and becoming a general leader on that field, stepping up when we need him the most.
Sadly, the Englishman picked up an injury in United’s last game against Fulham, ruling him out of international duty over the last fortnight.
Rashy has been back in training since, with Ten Hag having ‘good hope’ that the key star will be available to play this weekend.
“I have good hope,” ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
“He trained but he had to do some treatment, he had to do some individual training and, today, he joined in the group. I think we have one more day so I have good hope he’s available. I think so.
“For me, it’s positive that he took that time to turn off from football [to go to New York]. I’ve seen him back this week and he showed a lot of energy, a lot of motivation, so this training, as the whole team, was a really good session with a lot of spirit, but especially also with Marcus.”
This away game against Newcastle feels massive. Win and our place inside the top four is looking good. Lose and we’re right back in the thick of it with both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Rashford being fit from now until the end of the season is going to be key to our hopes. His threat is perhaps the biggest we have in our dressing room right now. We’re absolutely going to need him to be at his brilliant best.
He’s now had a good fortnight away from football, meaning mentally, Rashford has hit the reset button. That can only be a good thing, with the Englishman now ready to come back, hit the ground running and end the season strongly.
