Erik ten Hag explains Aaron Wan-Bissaka absence for Leeds game

Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the game against Leeds United last night, with Erik ten Hag confirming why.

Manchester United showed fight in that second half against Leeds United, coming back from 2-0 down to salvage a draw. However, it’s viewed as two points dropped.

The game itself highlighted exactly why United aren’t ready to compete. This project is still in its early days. Results and performances like this were always going to happen. On the night, United simply were not good enough without the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen available.

Another man who was absent was Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Just before kick-off, Erik ten Hag explained why the 25-year-old was missing. Apparently, the former Crystal Palace man missed the Leeds game with an illness.

Thankfully, this isn’t a muscle injury or any sort of physical ailment, meaning it shouldn’t be a long-term problem for Wan-Bissaka. In all likelihood, he’ll be back this weekend.

As a result, it meant that Diogo Dalot was thrown back into the line-up, probably quicker than Ten Hag would have liked. For what it’s worth, the Portugal international did a decent enough job upon his return to the fold.

It’ll now be intriguing to see who starts at the weekend, assuming Wan-Bissaka is back to 100%. I’d imagine it’s one of Ten Hag’s tougher team news decisions heading towards that Elland Road clash – which United simply have to win given they dropped points in the home fixture.

If United want to play on the front foot, I’d imagine Dalot will get the nod due to his superior ability with the ball at feet. If Ten Hag’s gameplan is based on counter-attacking, Wan-Bissaka could be handed the start due to his defensive qualities.

Either way, United have two great options available to them on the right-hand side of defence.
