Erik ten Hag was happy with the way Casemiro played at centre-back vs Burnley.
Manchester United earned relatively safe progression through into the next round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening, with the Red Devils putting in a professional performance against the Championship side.
Erik ten Hag did name a strong line-up, certainly one that had more firepower in it than we initially assumed anyway.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was seeing Casemiro at centre-back. The Brazilian, who is arguably the best in the world in that defensive midfield role, was pushed back – and it worked a treat.
Casemiro was typically-cool in every single aspect of his game as per usual, taking to the position like a duck to water.
After the game, Ten Hag was full of praise for the United star who was ‘leading’ for the Reds against Burnley. The Dutchman also referred to how composed the ex-Real Madrid man was.
When asked about whether he thought Casemiro played well, Ten Hag responded to ManUtd.com:
“[It was] what you can expect: really experienced, really composed. [He was] leading [and had] a good combination with Victor Lindelof. So I was happy with the performance.”
After a relatively slow start to his United career back in August and September, we’re now seeing exactly what Casemiro can offer. He’s an unreal footballer, still playing at a supremely high level.
More than anything, it’s the experience he brings to the table. Casemiro has won at the highest level, multiple times. That attitude and mentality is rubbing off on the rest of the squad nicely.
What I enjoy watching about Casemiro is his intensity and passion. Cast your mind back to how he celebrated that late goal against Chelsea. He’s loving playing for this club under Ten Hag. He’s intent on helping this side return to the top. These days, that can be rare.
Hopefully, we continue to see these elite performances from Casemiro for the remainder of the season.
