Erik ten Hag is now amongst the front-runners for the permanent Man United managerial job…
As we all know, Ralf Rangnick is purely a short-term hire for Manchester United. The German’s task is to steady the ship, before passing over control to a permanent boss next summer.
It goes without saying that if the 63-year-old does an excellent job, he should be under consideration to get a long-term contract himself.
However, United are already doing their due diligence, exploring their options in regards to who they could bring in. Enter, Erik ten Hag.
I’d say that the current Ajax manager is probably the top target (along with Mauricio Pochettino) amongst the fans. It feels like they both play an attack-minded brand of football and that’s what us supporters want to see.
Well, according to The Mirror, the 51-year-old Ten Hag ‘jumps queue’ to become the name at the forefront of United’s minds.
Apparently, there are two factors that have left Old Trafford chiefs ‘impressed’ with what Ten Hag can offer. The first being by turning a bunch of Premier League strugglers into Champions League stars.
Sebastien Haller, Daley Blind, Davy Klaassen, Steven Berghuis, Dusan Tadic and Maarten Stekelenburg are all named as players who have had to leave England due to their struggles, before Ten Hag turned them into top-drawer players.
On top of that, Ten Hag has also been brilliant when it comes to developing players. Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek tops that list before he moved to Old Trafford, while Hakim Ziyech, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt all improved under his tutelage.
Factor in Ajax winning trophies galore over in Holland and this does feel like someone who’d be the perfect fit for the Old Trafford club.
Sure, there are always some risks involved, particularly as Ten Hag has never managed in a top-class league, but given time, I’d genuinely believe that he’d work wonders with the current squad at Old Trafford.
