Man United have not given up on signing Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona.
Erik ten Hag will know his future as Manchester United manager is far from secure, though behind the scenes, the Red Devils gaffer will be preparing for next season.
The transfer rumours have already started for what is a massive summer transfer window, with several names linked with an Old Trafford switch.
Among them is Frenkie de Jong. It seems like Ten Hag is not willing to give up on bringing his fellow Dutchman to the Theatre of Dreams, with Mundo Deportivo providing an update on that front.
In their headline, MD state that Ten Hag is ‘still crazy’ about signing the midfielder.
The ex-Ajax man knows his future is ‘up in the air’, though if kept in the job, signing De Jong is among his ‘main objectives’.
Ten Hag will ‘ask again’ to bring in De Jong, while the player’s entourage knows that contact is coming from the 20-time Premier League champions.
De Jong has never shied away from making his intentions clear. He would prefer to stay with Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window, though he’s currently locked in contract renewal talks with the Catalan side.
To me, this still feels like a long-shot. De Jong didn’t want to move to United last summer when they had Champions League football on the table. Am I suddenly meant to believe he’d have changed his mind after this disastrous season? I highly doubt it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if De Jong’s agents are pushing this story, as they look to secure a better deal for their client.
