Man United could look to make a move to sign Noussair Mazraoui this summer, with Erik ten Hag keen on reuniting with the right-back.
Manchester United could look to further strengthen their defence this summer, but in the right-back position rather than at centre-half.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been heavily linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams this summer, which does make sense, given Erik ten Hag has never really viewed him as the ideal stylistic fit.
As a result, United would have to replace Wan-Bissaka’s minutes with genuine quality. Now, according to The Mirror, it’s Noussair Mazraoui who is being viewed as a possible option.
According to the claim, Ten Hag is ‘keen’ on a reunion with the Moroccan full-back at Old Trafford, while his current club, Bayern Munich, are willing to sell the player this summer.
The Bavarian side want around £25m to let the 26-year-old leave, though United are hopeful they can find a compromise over the fee, worth somewhere around the £18m mark.
Before any deal to acquire Mazraoui is done, United will have to offload Wan-Bissaka first as the Red Devils look to stay within the Premier League’s new spending rules.
Wan-Bissaka could net around £15m in fee from West Ham United, freeing the Reds up to sign Mazraoui.
The verdict
This strikes me as a saga that could drag on for a few weeks yet. Recent stories have claimed West Ham United are also interested in Mazraoui, so that could complicate things somewhat.
Mazraoui is certainly a better fit for the way United want to play, with Ten Hag keen on signing yet another former Ajax player.
Hopefully, a deal is done before the season starts, so the right-back can get comfortable in his new surroundings first.
