Erik ten Hag has offered a mixed Alejandro Garnacho injury update.

Manchester United have been coping without Alejandro Garnacho for numerous weeks now, after the Argentine was on the wrong end of a pretty shocking tackle.

The young starlet was just beginning to find his feet at the time of the injury, which depleted United’s squad in a key area of the field.

Erik ten Hag was always firm in his belief that Garnacho would return before the end of the season – though all had gone quiet on that front for numerous weeks.

Well today, Ten Hag did offer an injury update on Garnacho. Apparently, the United starlet is ‘back on the pitch’, though he’s unavailable for selection tomorrow, with this game coming a little too soon.

Check out what the boss had to say in full here:

“Garnacho is back on the pitch but he’s not ready for the game tomorrow.” Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com.

The first point of note is that Garnacho is not far away. He’s seemingly back out there training in some capacity, meaning he’s beginning to build the fitness levels up.

I don’t think anyone expected to see him out on the turf tomorrow against Tottenham Hotspur, though the fact that he’s now closing in on a return is huge news.

Outside of Marcus Rashford, United have struggled for any real productivity from that left-hand side this season and Garnacho is someone who has looked promising at times. His directness, youthful exuberance and natural ability make him a key asset.

It does sound like we’ll be getting him back sooner rather than later, which is huge going into an end-of-season run-in where we’re going to be desperate for points.

Hopefully, he’s back out on the Old Trafford turf soon.
