Erik ten Hag offers injury update on Raphael Varane

Erik ten Hag has ruled Raphael Varane out of Man United’s next six games before the World Cup through injury.

Manchester United’s dramatic 1-1 draw away at Chelsea was marred by an injury to Raphael Varane, who looked visibly upset as he was forced off the pitch.

The centre-half has been in sensational form to start this campaign, looking like a rock at the back alongside Lisandro Martinez.

We United fans feared the worst as soon as the injury happened. I genuinely thought it could have been a potential season-ender. Thankfully, that isn’t the case.

While speaking to the media ahead of the Sheriff game tomorrow night, Erik ten Hag confirmed the injury blow, stating that the United star is ‘certainly’ out until the World Cup. However, there was some positive news for France, with the gaffer expecting Varane to be fit for Qatar 22.

Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say on the Raphael Varane injury here:

“Rapha Varane isn’t in the squad,” Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com. “He will be out, certainly until the World Cup so he will not play in this block [of games] for Man United.”

The gaffer was then asked about Varane and his World Cup availability:

“I think so (will be fit), but the prognosis we have to wait. We have to see how it develops, how the rehab will develop.”

Obviously, it feels like it’ll be touch and go for Varane’s World Cup hopes, though the ex-Real Madrid man should be back fit for United upon resumption of domestic football in December.

Varane has been a vital figure for United so far. Coping without him for the next six games is less than ideal, but looking at the fixtures, I’m hopeful both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire can get the job done in the meantime.

There is growing concern about Varane’s jagged injury history, though. These problems seem to be happening more and more. The longer this goes on, he’ll have less and less of the manager’s trust.

Get well soon, Rapha!
