Man United have received mixed team news for the Southampton game that takes place this Saturday.

Manchester United are absolutely desperate for a victory this weekend. Not only would it somewhat ease the pressure on Erik ten Hag, it’d also be massive for team morale. The Reds have been stewing on a poor Liverpool result for a fortnight now, though this game is a chance to put that right.

Winning will not be easy. Trips to Southampton are always tough, despite the fact they’ve lost all three of their opening games to start this campaign. United will have to play somewhere close to their best if they’re to win this game convincingly.

Ahead of the match, Ten Hag has met the media to deliver the all-important team news, with the Dutchman providing some mixed information. Neither Luke Shaw nor Rasmus Hojlund are fit to be involved, though Manuel Ugarte is ‘available’.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw, they are progressing very well, but are not ready for this game,” Ten Hag said, per ManUtd.com. “Manuel Ugarte, I think we all have seen he played for Uruguay. He returned this afternoon, he was the only player who returned today.”

“All the other players returned yesterday, so he is available for this game.”

I absolutely love Shaw, but at this point, I’ve all-but given up on the Englishman ever being fit for a prolonged period of time. He will need to play minutes for the reserves before he’s anywhere close to being ready to make the jump up to the first-team.

Hojlund missing out is disappointing. I really thought he was trending to starting this one among the substitutes bench, though perhaps the midweek game against Barnsley has already been earmarked for the striker.

As for Ugarte, this is encouraging. He’s had very little minutes in the legs so I’d be highly surprised if he’s starting in this one, though it would be nice to see him come off the bench so we can get at least a small glimpse of our new man in action.
