Man United boss, Erik ten Hag, is doing his best to bring Cody Gakpo to the club.
Manchester United Football Club suddenly have a gaping hole within their squad, as Cristiano Ronaldo has departed.
Finding someone who can replace those minutes in the January transfer window is notoriously difficult – with the club doing their utmost to sign the impressive Cody Gakpo.
The Dutchman has scored three World Cup goals, showcasing all his attributes while leading the line for the Netherlands. This comes after an excellent start to the Eredivisie campaign for PSV Eindhoven, I must add.
The latest information comes from journalist Matteo Moretto, writing for Relevo.
He confirmed that Ten Hag ‘presses’ to sign the 23-year-old for United. Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all deemed ‘not interested’ in the Dutchman, giving United plenty of hope.
However, there is some sour news. PSV Eindhoven does not ‘look favourably’ on a winter sale. They’d prefer to wait until the summer unless an ‘irresistible’ offer comes in during the winter transfer period. On top of that, Qatar 2022 will heavily inflate the eventual price of Gakpo, just as you’d expect…
Check out @MatteMoretto’s tweet on the news here:
I’ve been heavily impressed with Gakpo. He genuinely does possess all the skills. I also love his versatility. This is someone who can play as a striker or come off the wing.
The reason why United didn’t finalise this deal over the summer was due to the rising costs of Antony. Sadly, United have absolutely missed a trick by not getting this deal done for the £30m that it would have cost. You’d expect that fee could double by the time next summer rolls around.
In terms of the likelihood of a January move. I’d be surprised if it happened. Gakpo’s in a good place while PSV would love to keep him. I just don’t see United breaking the bank after spending so much during the summer of 2022.
