Erik ten Hag is seemingly a big fan of Man United youngster, Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United Football Club have had a pretty good pre-season tour, with Erik ten Hag beginning to formulate his starting line-up ahead of the serious stuff starting in a couple of weeks.
Youngsters have also been given opportunities. Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage have featured pretty regularly thus far. However, one man who hasn’t been involved is Alejandro Garnacho. I have to say, that left us all scratching our heads.
The Argentine wasn’t involved again yesterday. Though it’s not because Ten Hag isn’t a fan of the player.
It’s quite the opposite in fact, if Fabrizio Romano’s latest information is correct. He states that Ten Hag is ‘really convinced’ of the Man United youngster, despite his pre-season absence.
“Ten Hag is really convinced of the skills of this boy (Garnacho).” Romano said on YouTube. “Lets see if Man United will decide to keep him or send him on loan during the window.
“But the idea of the club is to offer him a new contract. It’s also approved by the manager. Contract discussions will be ongoing with Garnacho.”
It’s also intriguing to learn that United have a new contract in the works for the young attacker, who shone in the FA Youth Cup final a couple of months ago.
United are looking pretty thin in the wide areas, though I still wouldn’t be surprised to see the Reds bring in a new winger of some description. If not, there’s a good chance Garnacho will be kept around for depth.
I would suspect we’ll see Garnacho feature in some capacity next weekend, with United playing a match on both Saturday and Sunday. Simply put, the first-team squad isn’t big enough to keep the 18-year-old off the turf in either of those games.
So what will happen with Alejandro Garnacho in 2022/23?
Well, the lack of minutes on tour suggests that Ten Hag believes Garnacho probably isn’t ready just yet. That’s understandable, we’re talking about an extremely young footballer here, whose career has only just started.
The likeliest option is Garnacho featuring heavily for the U23s, with the odd appearance in the senior squad over the course of the campaign. I also wouldn’t rule out a loan move, either.
