Erik ten Hag has finally been asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit, with the Dutchman giving the perfect response.

Before the World Cup kicked off, tensions were heightened surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international conducted a pretty grim interview with Piers Morgan, basically slagging off Manchester United in every which way possible.

The attacker was then relieved of his duties by United, with the club and the player coming to a mutual agreement over the termination of his contract.

With the World Cup then taking centre stage, there had been no direct comment from the manager about what unfolded – until now…

Ten Hag was finally asked (and answered) a question about Ronaldo’s exit. The boss stated that he’s now in the past, with the club looking towards the future. You absolutely love to see it.

Check out what Ten Hag had to say when asked about Ronaldo’s exit here:

“He’s gone and it’s the past. We are now looking forward and we’re looking to the future.” Ten Hag told the media, including David McDonnell.

It’s now about instilling further confidence in those players at the club. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Antony are all looking super sharp right now. All were ahead of Ronaldo in the pecking order at the time of his contract being ripped up.

I must also point out that Ronaldo was also benched by Portugal for their last sixteen game last night. His replacement in the team scored a hat-trick. Make of that what you will.

Again, for us, it all just comes back to Ronaldo not being able to handle the fact that he’s no longer amongst the best in the business. It’s an ego thing. The fact that he’s being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia says everything you need to know. I just don’t believe there are any top clubs out there that would be willing to take that punt on him anymore.

Credit to Ten Hag. He was the first to realise that Ronnie is no longer an elite level footballer.
