Erik ten Hag has unveiled he plans to use Antony primarily as a right-winger.
Manchester United Football Club have waited for practically the whole summer to get their man, but Antony is now here.
Erik ten Hag worked with the Brazilian to great success at Ajax, with the Dutchman choosing to spend a large chunk of the transfer budget to bring the winger to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old will provide instant competition for places all across the front three due to his versatility, skill and sheer ability.
Sadly, the Leicester City game tonight comes a little too quickly for Antony – though fingers crossed we get to see him in some capacity when Arsenal visit Old Trafford this weekend.
Anyway, ahead of the Foxes game later, Ten Hag was asked about where he sees Antony playing positionally. The boss confirmed that the attacker will feature primarily on the right-hand side of the attack.
“It’s good in the first place that there is competition,” Ten Hag said when asked about Antony by the press, including ManUtd.com.
The boss was then asked if he would be used as a right-winger, he explained: “If it happens, yes.”
Obviously, the deal has since been finalised, with Antony now officially a United player. The Brazilian is no doubt ready to hit the ground running and starting to challenge for minutes.
Now we know that it’ll be Jadon Sancho who’ll be Antony’s main competition for starts. Though Ten Hag has always been firm in his belief that this is a squad game and he is not afraid to rest and rotate players regardless of form and tactics.
Where I believe Antony has an edge is familiarity. Obviously, the gaffer knows exactly how best to utilise the player from their time together over in the Netherlands. In terms of getting comfortable, there’s no better way to do that than surrounding yourself with players and coaching staff you know well. Antony absolutely fits into that bracket.
