Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Facundo Pellistri in his post-game interview after the victory over Charlton.
Manchester United are into the final four of the Carabao Cup, although the 3-0 scoreline flatters the Red Devils somewhat. At the end of the day, being in the hat for the next round is all that matters.
The game itself will be remembered for two debuts; Kobbie Mainoo and Facundo Pellistri.
The latter had to play his part off the substitutes bench, being given just ten minutes to prove his worth. My, did Pellistri grab that opportunity with both hands.
He grabbed an assist for Marcus Rashford’s first goal of the evening, while looking like a constant threat whenever he was on the ball. It was certainly encouraging for the young man, who has waited patiently for his opportunity.
After the game, Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Pellistri, admitting he can ‘see a future’ in the emerging star, while reiterating he was ‘really happy’ with his performance. It’s hard to disagree.

“I see a future in him. He is doing really well and we have to see what is the best [for him]. He is progressing. Against Everton [in a behind-closed doors friendly], I was really happy with his performance.” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
“I was happy with his performance at the World Cup so his progress is really good and now he is coming on and has an effect. So that’s the next step that I say: ‘well done Pelli, keep going’.”
Pellistri is someone who has seemingly been on Ten Hag’s radar for a few months now following some impressive performances in training and for his country. What I like most about this is that this manager will give you opportunities as soon as you prove your worth. That has to be encouraging for the whole squad.
We said it in an earlier article, but Pellistri’s attitude is nothing short of exemplary. It would have been so easy for him to moan, kick up a fuss about not playing and take this public. Instead, he’s kept his head down, put in the effort in training and been rewarded.
Yes, he would have liked to make his debut earlier, but perhaps now is a perfect time. Age 21, Pellistri is mature enough to understand that he has to work even harder to stay there, but if last night’s debut was anything to go by, we’re going to see a lot more brilliance from this young man between now and the end of the season.
