Erik ten Hag has Scott McTominay firmly in his plans at Man United.
Much change is anticipated at Manchester United this summer. Several players have confirmed their exits on free transfers. Others will likely be sold.
One man who seemingly isn’t going anywhere, despite dividing fan opinion, is Scott McTominay.
The Scotland international improved leaps and bounds last year, though some still doubt whether he’s good enough. Well, Erik ten Hag’s view of McTominay is the only important one. And the Dutchman is a big fan of McTominay’s…
The claim comes from The Times (subscription required). In an article mostly about Frenkie de Jong interest, McTominay’s name gets a mention.
According to The Times, the 25-year-old United midfielder is viewed as a ‘pivotal’ player for Ten Hag.
The Reds will resist any offers for McTominay, with Newcastle and another Premier League club apparently making ‘tentative enquiries’ to bring in the Red Devils’ number 34.
Thus far, no formal offers for McTominay have been made, though The Times believe that those offers will be rejected as they do not want to sell the player.
From McTominay’s standpoint, not much has changed. He’s ‘determined’ to stay at the Theatre of Dreams and become an integral part of the rebuilding process.
If I’m McTominay, this is a huge morale boost. There’s simply no bigger compliment any player can receive than that.
What this tells us is that McTominay will likely feature heavily under the Dutchman this season, which isn’t a bad thing whatsoever. The midfielder definitely stepped up his game when United needed him last season, while there is still room for improvement. Hopefully, Ten Hag is the man to get the absolute best out of Scotty Mac.
