A new name has been added to the list of potential Man United transfer targets; Denzel Dumfries.

It’s fair to say that full-back has emerged as another glaring issue within this Manchester United squad over the last twelve months. On both sides of the back four.

Let’s focus in on the right-hand for now. Both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have blown hot and cold all season long. Whether they fit into what Erik ten Hag wants to achieve remains to be seen. I’d guess probably not.

That’s where Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries comes in. The Dutchman, who spent three years at PSV before his move to the Serie A, has emerged as a transfer target.

It’s Tuttosport (Wednesday print edition), with the claim, with the translation coming via Sport Witness. They say United could move to sign the 26-year-old full-back this summer.

In terms of a transfer fee, Dumfries is today worth at least €20m more than the €15m Inter paid to acquire him. In today’s market, a €35m fee for a high-level right-back has to be considered very good business.

What’s further intriguing about this potential move for Dumfries is that the incoming United boss Ten Hag has him ‘at the top of his preferences’, suggesting that he’s very keen on acquiring his countryman as quickly as possible.

There’s no doubt that United will have to manage their money carefully this summer. There are a lot of holes that need to be filled with only so much money available. Dumfries strikes me as someone who could come in and start regularly from day one. That has to be a good start for this gradual rebuilding process.

It does mean there’s every chance that at least either Wan-Bissaka or Dalot would have to be moved on as a result. That could bring some credibility to a recent BBC report, claiming that Crystal Palace are keen on bringing The Spider back to Selhurst Park.

Would a Man United move for Denzel Dumfries make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
