Erik ten Hag is intent on keeping both Raphael Varane and Casemiro at the club beyond this January, despite heavy links suggesting a move away could be possible.
Manchester United Football Club are slowly trending in a different direction, as the Red Devils look to continue their progression under Erik ten Hag.
As part of the dressing room development, some experienced faces have been consistently linked with January transfers away. Both Raphael Varane could be considering their future at Old Trafford. The former has fallen out of favour, while the latter has spent large portions of this season injured.
Well, that may not be the case. It’s ESPN with the scoop. They state that Ten Hag is intent on keeping the pair of United stars at the club beyond January. the Dutch gaffer wants to keep ahold of them both until at least the summer.
The situation is somewhat flexible, as if they actively push to leave, they could be allowed to depart in the mid-season window. In that instance, Ten Hag could ask the club to sign replacements, though that may be tough due to Financial Fair Play constraints.
Honestly, it does make sense for the gaffer to keep these guys around. Their experience could prove to be invaluable in both the FA Cup and Premier League, particularly when April and May rolls around and we’re at the business end of the season.
The issue is here that they’re both on massive wages. Probably bigger financial packages than their footballing ability is worth at this stage of the season. With that in mind, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re forced out the door at the end of the season.
