Erik Ten Hag would be keen on the Man United job – but not until the summer…
Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we didn’t want to get into the new Manchester United manager talk until we’d given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his credit.
The Baby Faced Assassin did some great work for this club. That’ll never be forgotten.
As they say, the show must go on. I’ll be honest, my faith in the decision-makers at United to get this one right is wavering. It’ll be interesting to see who they choose as their next permanent gaffer.
Well, the name on everyone’s lips right now is Erik Ten Hag. The Ajax coach has done some great work with the Eredivisie outfit. Though maybe it’s time to take that next step.
Well, according to Sky Sports News’ Dharmesh Sheth, the 51-year-old would ‘100% be interested’ in taking over as Manchester United manager.
There is a catch, however. Ajax would not entertain him leaving in the middle of the season, meaning Ten Hag would have to wait until the summer to take over at Old Trafford.
Check out Dharmesh Sheth’s tweet on the news here:
The Dutchman’s contract at Ajax doesn’t expire until 2023, meaning United would have to pay some sort of compensatory fee to his current club in order to free Ten Hag from his contract.
If United do like Ten Hag, it’s encouraging to hear that the feeling is reciprocated and he fancies taking on this job.
I’ll be honest, I’ve watched very little of Ajax while he’s been manager. However, it does feel like a good fit (on paper at least).
The lack of experience in a major European league leaves me somewhat concerned, but I guess United have to take a leap of faith in regards to whoever they install as next manager.
You also have to consider that United would need an interim until the end of the season. Would that someone be Michael Carrick? Or would the club hire from outside the current crop of coaches who are already at the club…?
