Erling Haaland is ready to call it quits at Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United are desperate to sign a prolific striker. Be it acquiring Harry Kane or developing Anthony Martial into that 25+ goal-a-season striker, the Red Devils need someone they can rely upon.
Erling Haaland has, understandably, been on their list of targets for quite some time. They’d fail with a bid to sign the Norwegian in January 2020, instead, he’d choose Borussia Dortmund.
Well now, that situation has already changed. Apparently, the United target has told Borussia Dortmund he wants to leave this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo, transcribed by The Express.
Haaland has scored 33 goals in 31 games across all competitions, which are absolutely insane numbers for a 20-year-old. Now he’s ready to take that next step.
As you’d imagine, the Reds will face heavy competition to land Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Norwegian compatriot, with Real Madrid amongst those credited with interest. They’re apparently ‘very attentive’ to Haaland’s situation.
Haaland currently has a release clause in his contract which comes into effect in 2022, meaning a club can buy him for just £68million. However, there’s the possibility Dortmund could let him leave this summer for a significantly higher price than that. A figure of over £150million is mentioned by The Express.
United could actually use that to their advantage. Only a handful of clubs can afford to pay such sums, whereas in a years time, every man and his dog will be more than willing to pay the £68m. Why not go out there, spend big and get their man now? Plus, you’d get an extra year of Haaland rather than waiting until 2022.
This guy would single-handedly change our future. He’d give Solskjaer one less problem to worry about, give Bruno Fernandes another reason to stick around in the long-term and guarantee us 25+ goals season-in-season out. Honestly, what’s not to like about that?
