Ethan Laird is edging towards making his return from injury.
Manchester United have several youngsters plying their trade out on loan at the moment – largely, those guys are impressing.
You look at Amad, Alvaro Fernandez and Ethan Laird as the standouts. All of whom are flourishing in the Championship.
Sadly, the latter has missed the last six QPR games following injury, which was a big blow for the London side as Laird really emerged as a key player.
However, the good news is that the star United loanee is nearing his injury return. The Manchester Evening News are reporting that he made his comeback in a reserve game, for a QPR B team this week. There’s now hope he could be fit enough for a place in the senior squad for their game this weekend.
Laird is one of those players who has seriously benefitted from the loan system. He’d have been the third choice right-back here in Manchester, making it hard to earn minutes and gain experience.
Moving to the Championship has made Laird a far better player. He’ll return to Manchester with a much better chance at regular minutes under Erik ten Hag.
This coming summer is going to be massive for Laird. He’ll no doubt head out on pre-season tour to the USA with the rest of the squad, being given a real opportunity to prove his worth.
With reports still suggesting that Aaron Wan-Bissaka could well leave, there’s a real possibility Laird could become the second-choice right-back – rather than United delving into the transfer market.
I genuinely believe he’s good enough to make a positive impact. It’s easy to forget that he is still just twenty-one years old.
