Ethan Laird signs for QPR on loan for 2022/23 season

Ethan Laird is heading to QPR for the 2022/23 season.

Manchester United were infamously told by Ralf Rangnick that ten signings were needed, while ten players also simply had to leave.

Thus far, United are well into double-figures in terms of outgoings, though only three players have been acquired.

Erik ten Hag is no doubt growing in frustration behind the scenes, with United’s failures in the transfer market seemingly rearing their ugly head yet again.

One young man who looked like he had promise aplenty is Ethan Laird. Not too long ago, we tipped him to be a regular first-teamer this season. However, the full-back will be playing his football elsewhere this year.

Earlier today, QPR confirmed that they’d sign the 21-year-old on a season-long loan, with Laird all-smiles wearing his new blue and white kit upon completing his transfer.

Once again, I’m left scratching my head. We’ve watched some dire performances from Diogo Dalot over the last couple of weeks, while Ten Hag doesn’t fancy Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Laird is someone who is the perfect fit for the style of play that Ten Hag likes to deploy. And we’re letting him go play elsewhere when he could feasibly be given first-team minutes here in Manchester?

Again, it comes down to the decision-makers coming up with some questionable plans. I just don’t get it.

We’ve seen it first-hand with Dean Henderson this weekend. He looked like the best keeper in the league for Nottingham Forest, while David de Gea was busy giving goals away for fun.

We can pile on the Glazers all we want, though I’d argue the worst thing they’ve done is completely eliminate the footballing structure in place. This is a club with no plan or identity, while every single manager employed by the Reds is destined to fail.

Do you think Ethan Laird will challenge for a first-team place next season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
