Manchester United finally got the centre-back that the fans have been craving for when they added Harry Maguire to the playing squad.
With Slabhead’s arrival, there’s a real possibility that a defender may well now be allowed to leave Old Trafford, in order to clear some space of the wage bill while trimming the squad.
Well, according to the Daily Mail, one man who will be allowed to leave is 29-year-old Marcos Rojo, with Premier League club Everton ‘exploring a deal’ for the Argentine.
Everton boss Marco Silva was keen on Rojo last summer and he has the ex-Sporting Lisbon man back in his sights; although his injury record is a concern for the Toffees.
The emergence of Axel Tuanzebe doesn’t help Rojo’s case to remain at United. In my pecking order, the Argentina international would be sixth choice meaning any sort of playing time would be hard to come by.
United have created a problem for themselves, though. Handing Rojo a new three-year contract, on big money no doubt, often leaves potential suitors put off by the asking price of both the club and player.
Everton does have money to spend and they desperately need a centre-back. I’m hopeful that a deal can be done though I do hold my breath…
