Amongst Manchester United’s many needs in the transfer market is a new striker. Recently, Moussa Dembele’s name has been touted as a potential Red Devils target.
However, The Daily Star and Football Insider say they’ll face competition for the 23-year-old’s signature in January, while stating that Dembele could cost £40million.
FI state that Everton have prepared a dossier on the forward, while having scouted Dembele over the weekend. The fact that Dembele was benched for the St. Etienne game will have encouraged both Toffees and Reds officials as you’d imagine it’d give either club a better chance at signing the Frenchman should an official bid be made.
According to the Daily Star, Everton are ‘confident’ that they can get a deal done, prising Dembele away from the French side.
The striker has been prolific wherever he has played his football. He did well at Fulham, Celtic and now Lyon. If he’s ready to take it up another level, United would be the perfect home for the young man – particularly due to the fact that the Old Trafford club are desperate for a new striker.
£40million for a player of his quality and class seems super-cheap, especially when you factor in that he should only improve with age. If there’s a genuine possibility that United can sign Dembele in January they should pull out all the stops – though Everton won’t go away quietly…
