Raphael Varane could soon be a Manchester United player, according to journalist Jorge Calabres.
Manchester United aren’t hanging around. After announcing that an agreement had been reached with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils are now moving onto securing other targets.
Centre-half is a huge need, with Raphael Varane the name most-linked with an Old Trafford switch. Now, El Espanol, via journalist Jorge Calabres, have a massive update for us.
Their article starts by claiming that Varane’s future ‘lies away from Real Madrid’. It’s claimed the Frenchman has to make a decision on whether to accept or reject the latest contract offer from Los Blancos over the next few days.
The Spanish giants have made a proposal to the defender, though Varane has to either sign that deal or move this summer – as Florentino Perez will not risk losing the centre-back for free next summer.
There are two teams showing the most interest in Varane; United and PSG. However, Sergio Ramos looks close to making the move to the French capital, leaving United in pole position to sign Varane.
Apparently, United’s contract offer to Varane is superior to that of Madrid’s, with Calabres claiming that ‘everything indicates’ a Man United move for the 28-year-old is ‘more than close’.
United would be willing to offer €50m (£43m) to secure the transfer, while it’s claimed Madrid want somewhere between €50-70m to make a deal happen. With that in mind, an agreement is deemed as ‘not difficult to achieve’.
It goes without saying, United signing Varane would be massive. He’s a world-class centre-half who could bring an awful lot of quality to this United starting line-up.
Hopefully, the Reds can push this deal over the line sooner rather than later.
