Cristiano Ronaldo looks likely to begin the season at Man United, despite the fact he wants to move away.
Manchester United Football Club were jolted back down to reality when Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed his intentions to leave the club during this transfer window.
The Portugal superstar wants to move away from the Red Devils for a Champions League club, with the now 37-year-old wishing to end his career playing in the premier competition on the continent – which is understandable.
Well, the latest report in the saga comes from Spanish media outlet, AS. They state that Ronaldo has his eyes set on ‘changing scene as soon as possible’.
Ronaldo has already told United he wants to leave, though for now, he has ‘no choice’ to remain in Manchester.
Ronaldo himself would like to be moved on before the opening game against Brighton this weekend, though ‘time is against him’ for that to happen. The GOAT could well be in the squad when the Reds take on Brighton this Sunday.
The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been holding meetings with several clubs. Barcelona, Chelsea, Napoli and Atletico Madrid all get a mention.
However, as things stand, ‘everything indicates’ the want away United star will have to begin the campaign with the Red Devils. Although it doesn’t seem as though Ronaldo will start that game against Brighton as he’s nowhere near fit enough to play a full 90 minutes in a competitive game.
My general rule of thumb has been avoid keeping players who do not want to be here. It always turns into a negative situation as everyone knows said player doesn’t want to be in that dressing room.
If United can find a buyer for Ronaldo, then find a replacement, why not move away from him and truly give Erik ten Hag a clean slate from which to work?
