Manchester United made a last-ditch attempt to prise Fabio Coentrao away from Real Madrid on loan in the summer, however failed due to Madrid not bringing in a replacement in time. The Portuguese left-back has only featured twice for the Spanish giants this term, and he’ll be allowed to leave for as little as £12m.
It all comes down to whether United want him or not. The 25-year old was one of the hottest prospects when he completed his move to Spain in 2011, but he has struggled to make a real impact. With the World Cup looming, the player would certainly be interested in a move as he’ll want to push for a place in the squad.
Coentrao is cheaper, and four years younger than Leighton Baines, for me the 25-year old would be the better option. He also has more experience in Champions League football, and on the international stage too.
Will a move materialise? We’ll have to wait and see. Follow us on Twitter (@OTFaithful) for more United updates.
