Fabrizio Romano provides injury update on Luke Shaw after Luton Town win

Luke Shaw succumbed to another injury during the 2-1 win vs Luton Town this afternoon, with Fabrizio Romano now offering an update.

Just when it felt like Manchester United were getting over their injury issues, it seems as though Erik ten Hag is hit with another blow.

This has undoubtedly proven to be a tough week for Luke Shaw. The Englishman came off at half-time last week against Aston Villa, then being a major doubt for the Luton Town game.

It felt like the ex-Southampton man was always trending in the direction of playing, with very little risk involved after the early indication suggested it was just a precautionary measure. However, lightning did indeed strike twice with Shaw coming off again.

As per usual, Fabrizio Romano has his finger on the pulse. He took to X to share the latest information, claiming that tests will follow for the English left-back, who has now gone off around the half-time mark in each of his last two games.

At this early stage, it’s unclear whether it’s the same area that’s affected for Shaw, or a new injury completely. You’d suspect the former, though at this time, it’s best to wait and see what these tests say.

The problem for United was that their hand was somewhat forced. Under normal circumstances, Shaw would likely sit out for a week anyway. However, he was the only fit left-back available to Ten Hag so the gaffer had no real choice.

Alvaro Fernandez is out on loan. Sergio Reguilon was sent back from his loan. Tyrell Malacia remains injured. Diogo Dalot can play there, though he’s the only fit right-back available to United at this point in time. It truly is a mess in those wide defensive positions right now…

Let’s hope that the Shaw injury is nothing too serious and he’s good to go next week, though I suspect he may be forced to sit out for a game or two, purely for his own good.
