Fabrizio Romano provides update on Antony transfer to Man United

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Antony to Man United.

We’re now just a few days away from pre-season beginning. The first batch of Manchester United players will return to the AON Training Complex on Monday.

No doubt Erik ten Hag would have hoped for some signings by this point, thus far, he remains disappointed.

As is typical, United have been linked with what feels like every single name under the sun. The Old Trafford club seem to be all talk, no substance at this point…

The name most linked with a Reds switch is Antony. The Brazilian worked with Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax, with all stories claiming this deal looks like a genuine possibility.

Now, the usually-reliable Fabrizio Romano has provided us all an update on the situation.

Apparently, United are ‘really interested’ in signing the 22-year-old, with contacts already having taken place. What’s intriguing here is that Ten Hag is ‘pushing’ to get this deal done.

However, Ajax aren’t going to let Antony leave on the cheap. The Brazilian’s agents have asked the club to listen to the offers, but it’s expected the price tag on his head will be ‘high’.

Honestly, I like the idea of Ten Hag surrounding himself with familiarity. Antony certainly provides some of that if this deal is done.

However, you get the feeling that Ajax aren’t going to let one of their key players leave on the cheap. Although no transfer fee is mentioned by Romano, you’d expect that eventually, he’s going to cost £50million+ to bring in.

I do have concerns about the settling in period for Antony. There’s no way of knowing how quickly (if at all) he’ll be able to adapt to English football. On top of that, playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world also brings its own pressure.
