Facundo Pellistri allays injury fears after hobbling off vs Atletico Madrid

Facundo Pellistri has eased worries about his injury after being unable to stay on vs Atletico Madrid.

Well, Manchester United’s unbeaten run during pre-season ended at the hands of Atletico Madrid yesterday, with the Red Devils losing 1-0.

The game itself was actually a wholly positive one for the boys in Red. They more than held their own against a top European side. I’d actually argue they had the better of the encounter all things considered.

It was a strong starting line-up named by Erik ten Hag. Something similar to what we’re likely to see on the opening day against Brighton next weekend.

There were minutes off the bench for some fringe players, too, including Facundo Pellistri.

The young Uruguayan has actually looked pretty sharp during his limited minutes this pre-season. He’s been playing with genuine confidence and I’d argue he should be ahead of Anthony Elanga in the pecking order based on the last four matches.

Sadly for the former Penarol man, he had to come off the pitch after twisting his ankle.

However, United have since been given an injury boost, with the youngster allaying the fans’ fears after hobbling off.

The now 20-year-old was involved in a few positive attacks, which makes his withdrawal all the more disappointing as we all wanted to see more of him.

However, on the flip side, there’s a chance he features tomorrow at Old Trafford. Ten Hag has stated that players who came off the bench against Atletico Madrid could be involved against Rayo Vallecano. With United looking so thin out wide, there’s a good chance Pellistri will get another opportunity.

Hopefully, he wakes up with his ankle feeling a whole lot better and he’s able to play at least some part.
