Man United could cash in on Facundo Pellistri this summer, with the winger failing to break into the first team.
Manchester United are undergoing major change at present. The Red Devils have new part-owners, INEOS, in charge. They’ll no doubt have different ideas and plans for the Old Trafford club. It’s certainly going to be intriguing to see how it plays out.
Several players may have to leave as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to create some funds for the manager to re-invest into the squad. Plenty of fringe footballers could see their heads firmly on the chopping block. Among them, Facundo Pellistri.
The winger is currently on loan at Granada over in Spain, having made six appearances, scoring once for the La Liga side since making the January move.
However, his return to Manchester this coming summer may be somewhat brief. That’s if the latest story from The Mirror is to be believed. They reckon that the 22-year-old United player ‘could leave’ this summer having ‘failed’ to live up to the hype.
Pellistri joined United in 2020 for around £7.5m, though he has failed to establish himself in the Reds side under Erik ten Hag.
The man from Uruguay has been drip-fed minutes here and there, though it wasn’t enough for Pellistri, who instead chose to head to Granada on loan in search of more playing time. That hasn’t really happened either.
Now 22 and with a year left on his contract, this could be the ideal time to cash in, with United’s new owners looking to reduce the number of fringe players on the books.
Pellistri is a talented young man. Sadly, it just hasn’t quite worked out for him in Manchester. That’s not to say he’s a bad player. Far from it in fact. It does feel like the right time to move him on, though.
