Injuries absolutely haven’t helped his case. A loan move over the summer was in the offing before treatment table woes struck.
Now, ESPN have been reporting on Pellistri and his future. Apparently, the 20-year-old is so ‘desperate’ to impress at United, he regularly asks members of the first-team coaching staff to put on extra sessions for him.
Current coach Benni McCarthy is helping Pellistri work specifically on his shooting, whereas teammates Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez have also helped out the player.
Pellistri has also been taking on extra gym work to help out with his physicality, while sources have been impressed with the effort he is putting in despite never having played a game for the club.
OTF’s verdict
It’s a weird situation. Pellistri is talented, though there are several players ahead of him in the pecking order. The young man looked pretty sharp in pre-season, though he’s always been overlooked for minutes.
I just don’t see Pellistri doing enough to start games with regularity here at United. Perhaps give him one more loan move to prove his worth, before looking at selling him on permanently if he doesn’t do enough to earn the trust of Ten Hag.
