Facundo Pellistri made his first Manchester United goal contribution for the U23s last night.
On deadline day, Manchester United made two surprise signings; Amad Traore and Facundo Pellistri. The former won’t make the move to Old Trafford until January, while Pellistri is already hard at work.
The man from Uruguay would be involved in a couple of matchday squads early on, before dropping down to the U23s to get some much-needed football under his belt.
I’d say that the 18-year-old has looked pretty impressive thus far, without getting a goal or assist registered. However, that changed last night against Tottenham Hotspur’s U23s.
Pellistri’s wait for his first goal will go on, though he now has his first United assist – and a lovely one at that. Thanks to @utdreportAcad for the video.
The winger would charge to the byline and fizz a lovely ball right into the danger area. Credit to Shola Shoretire, too, who attacked it brilliantly and headed home, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
More than anything, this is a confidence-booster for Pellistri, who is already looking like someone who could knock on the first-team door in the not too distant future.

What I love about Pellistri is his directness. The Uruguayan will always try to make things happen and look to threaten the opposing goal. When you look at United’s current wide-players, there’s definitely an opening there.
He feels like someone who could make an impact in the first-team this season if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is hit with an injury or two. I’d already play him over the likes of Juan Mata and Daniel James, though I get that the club are looking to ease Pellistri in, rather than throwing him in right at the deep end.
For now, it’s about continuing to develop, looking to impress and patiently waiting for his chance. This is an excellent start, though.
