Man United winger, Facundo Pellistri, is set to head out on loan for the 2022/23 season.
Erik ten Hag is already beginning to formulate his starting line-up and squad in his own mind, with Manchester United looking to move forward under his tutelage.
Pre-season tour has been a fantastic learning curve for the 31-strong travelling party. The Dutch manager is already getting an impressive tune out of his players, though this is just the start.
As things start ramping up towards the serious stuff starting, the squad will start to thin out. Youngsters will return back to their respective age groups while some players will head out on loan.
Well, ESPN Uruguay believe one United youngster will spend the 2022/23 season away from Old Trafford; Facundo Pellistri.
They state that Pellistri, who spent last season in Spain with Alaves, will head out on a short-term deal once again. This time, a move to Portugal or Italy is the likely option for the 20-year-old winger.
Pellistri did feature for United against Melbourne Victory, scoring a goal and looking pretty decent in the process. However, the attacker is still a little rough around the edges, and regular playing time that a loan move would provide him feels like in his best interests.
As things stand, there’s little point to keeping Pellistri around, where he’d only be granted U23 football and the odd substitute appearance here or there.
The young man is talented. That’s obvious. While it’s nice to see him on tour, adjusting to Ten Hag’s system, a move away is absolutely the correct decision at this stage in his career. It’s easy to forget he’s still so young in relative terms, so no doubt he’ll come back to Manchester with a much better chance at making it into the first team next summer.
