Facundo Pellistri has suffered an injury while out on loan.
The young Uruguayan Facundo Pellistri, who was signed on transfer deadline day, looked mightily impressive for the U23s earlier on in the campaign.
A loan move to Alaves would then be sanctioned, in order for the teenager to continue his development. By all accounts, he’s doing okay out in Spain – though no doubt he’s hoping to come back to Old Trafford a better player than he was when he left.
The 19-year-old has featured six times in Spain’s top-flight, which is far more minutes than he would’ve been offered at Old Trafford. However, his development has now stunted as he’s going to be spending some time on the treatment table.
The talented United starlet has been dealt an injury blow, Alaves confirmed yesterday. Pellistri has suffered a fibrillar tear in his left thigh and he’ll continue to be monitored on a day-to-day basis.
Now the good news is that the problem sounds far more serious in name than it actually is. The fact that he’s on a day-to-day basis suggests that anyway.
Whether this injury is going to keep him out of games remains to be seen, though you’d like to think that Pellistri will suffer no long-term effects from this – and he won’t be returning to Old Trafford to undergo any rehab or anything like that.
I’ve said it before, but I hope there’s a pre-season this summer. It benefits players like Pellistri more than anyone as he’s given the chance to work in and around the first team for a month or so. That can only help his development as a player – and I, for one, can’t wait to see him in action.
Get well soon, Facundo!
