Facundo Pellistri has been urged to leave Man United, by former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea player, Gus Poyet.
Manchester United Football Club are in a win-now business. Erik ten Hag needs to continue stringing the victories together, in an effort to return this club back to its former glories.
The Dutchman has absolutely made a good start, helping United win four Premier League matches in a row. The squad is now looking a little more experienced than it did at the start of the summer, which has meant a reduction in opportunities for the next generation.
Amongst those players who has been forgotten about is Facundo Pellistri. The young man featured pretty heavily during pre-season, looking like a decent option over on that right-wing.
The plan was to send Pellistri out on loan to gain some experience, but injury struck, meaning he’s likely to be stuck here in Manchester until at least January.
Well now, the 20-year-old United starlet has been urged to ‘go somewhere and play’ for the good of his career, as he will ‘struggle’ for game time here in Manchester. That’s according to Guy Poyet.
Check out what Poyet had to say when he urged Pellistri to leave Man United:
“Pellistri will struggle to get game time,” Poyet told Midnite, as per TeamTalk. “It would be good for him to go somewhere and play, because the World Cup is around the corner and he is very important for the Uruguay team because the coach [Diego Alonso] has lots of faith in his ability, he’s a proper winger.”
While I agree with what he says about game time, there’s no way Pellistri can find a new club before the World Cup. If, as Poyet says, Diego Alonso is a big believer in the winger, then surely he’ll be aboard the plane to Qatar anyway…
It’s a weird situation. I guess it comes down to just how much United believe in Pellistri the player. If they’re not completely sold, it may be best for all involved to move him on permanently, but if there’s that glimmer of hope, keep him around for a little while longer and see what he can do.
In all honesty, I don’t see Pellistri as anything more than a bit-part player. There’s probably just too much quality in front of him in the pecking order for the young man to ever get a real run in the side.
