Facundo Pellistri will remain put at Man United until January at the earliest following injury.
It’s pretty common knowledge that amongst Manchester United’s most important needs during this summer window is another attacker or two.
Erik ten Hag’s squad has been significantly weakened in that area of the field, with both Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata leaving. Others have also departed.
Names aplenty have been linked, though you get the feeling no signings are imminent in that area of the pitch. Well, one man who will be involved with the first-team, at least for the meantime, is Facundo Pellistri.
However, that situation has come about in a weird way…
It’s AS with the claim, while Sport Witness deserve credit for the translation. They state that Pellistri suffered an ankle injury in the friendly against Atletico Madrid at the back end of July.
The timeframe placed on that injury is around six to eight weeks, meaning he will not be available for selection until mid-September at the very earliest. Sadly, that means the Uruguayan will not be able to leave on loan this month, which seemed like the original plan.
As a result, the emerging United attacker ‘will play’ for United this season, AS suggest. They also hammer home the fact that an Old Trafford exit ‘has been ruled out’.
Obviously, from September until January at least, Ten Hag will have another option out wide, which isn’t the worst thing in the world.
That said, Pellistri has some way to go before he’s ready to start at this level on a regular basis. Sure, he looked pretty good during pre-season, though his overall game is still a little rough around the edges – hence why a loan move would have been the ideal scenario.
This is exactly what happened with Amad last season. The Ivory Coast international had to sit out the first few months of the season following an injury which resulted in a failed loan. He never recovered from that. Let’s hope it doesn’t go that way for Pellistri.
Get well soon, Facundo!
