FC Barcelona fear that Man United will meet star’s £50million release clause: report

FC Barcelona fear that Manchester United will meet Samuel Umtiti’s £50million release clause, according to the Daily Mail, per The Sun.

The report claims that Virgil van Dijk’s expensive move to Liverpool has meant that Jose Mourinho is ready to meet Umtiti’s release clause, as he hopes to add another defender to his squad.

However, the Red Devils won’t have it all their own way, with Manchester City also keen on landing the 24-year-old who has made a wonderful impression out in Catalonia.

The Frenchman has managed to beat out stiff competition from Javier Mascherano to earn himself a regular starting role at the Camp Nou, but, I don’t see this move happening until summer at the very least.

We have to be honest, would Umtiti leave Barcelona in their current situation to move to Manchester United in ours? I highly doubt it, and that’s before you factor in Pep Guardiola’s interest.

We’ve had a real problem with centre-backs recently, namely when it comes to consistency. We have some talented lads on our books, but none of them can stay fit enough for the duration of a season, meaning no defensive partnerships are being built on; which is a key part to any successful side.
