FC Barcelona are contemplating an Anthony Elanga loan move before today’s transfer deadline.
Manchester United’s squad is taking shape under Erik ten Hag, though the gaffer still needs to make further changes to this dressing room.
One man who has been on the fringes of things for quite some time is Anthony Elanga. The winger, obviously talented, has been pushed out of the line-up by both Antony and Alejandro Garnacho. He’s seen a massive reduction in minutes and as a result, is considering his position.
A loan move away from Old Trafford has been talked up this month. Here we are, on transfer deadline day, with Elanga still here. However, a short-term move could still take place, with FC Barcelona interested…
ESPN report that the European giant are weighing up a loan move for the United man, with the Catalan club having a small amount of money to play with this month.
According to the report, Barca have to make a decision on whether to bring in a winger to replace Memphis Depay, or sign a midfielder to provide cover for Sergio Busquets. If they go down the attacking route, Elanga could be that man.
The United forward ‘could be allowed to leave’ this month, though it remains to be seen whether the Reds view Barca as the right destination for Elanga.
The club have made an emphasis on only sanctioning loan moves for players who are going to play regularly. No disrespect intended to Elanga, though he’ll likely find minutes just as hard to come by at the Nou Camp as he does at Old Trafford.
At this stage, it’s all about playing matches if you’re Elanga. There’s no difference in sitting on the Barca bench than United’s, though I guess it’d be much warmer over in Catalonia…
