This evening in an interview with MUTV the boss was questioned about the possibility of more new faces coming into Old Trafford, he confirmed that we are still in the market for at least another player, but wouldn’t give any names away.
When asked by MUTV about new signings, Ferguson said “Yes, there’s a possibility. We’re working on one or two things but there’s nothing really to tell you to be honest.”
He continued “We always try to get our work done at the end of the season – we spent a good deal of time sorting the deal with Shinji and we’d agreed a deal with Nick Powell before the play-offs which was a good move by us because the boy had an outstanding final at Wembley.”
“When you don’t get deals done immediately and you’re negotiating with a club over a long period, then you can’t expect to just snap your fingers and get it done.”
It’s great to hear that the club is still in the market for more players, I just hope they are proven names and not young lads who need a few seasons to develop. We need world-class players who can come in and make a difference to our side straight away.
With Fabio going to QPR on loan, and the future of Zeki Fryers as a Manchester United player hanging in the balance, you have to think the rumours about Leighton Baines are true. The fee being reported is around the £15million mark but i’d welcome a left-back of his quality to be brought in and used in a rotation system with Patrice Evra.
I’d still like us to bring in one more midfielder, we lack a real leader and presence in the centre of the park, we need a ‘hard man’ who isn’t scared of putting in a tough tackle. This is something we have lacked since Keano’s departure in my opinion. I’d like to see us go for Joao Moutinho, but after such a solid European Championships his transfer fee could become a stumbling block. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
